This article analyses the historical conditions for Lesbian, Gay, Transgender and Bisexual (LGBT) people in Northern Ireland's recent history. The neglect of LGBT lives in historical analysis of Northern Ireland is examined. By ignoring the role of religion in the formation of sexual identities, and privileging secularity and liberalism in the formation of identities among sexual minorities, LGBT people in Northern Ireland have been neglected by historians.
